From the recording California Countre'
the Septic song - Track ( 14 )
WARNING : Repetitive use of the expression " A - Hole " and ( one time only ) the four-letter slang for " defecation ".
This is one of the first songs I'd ever written. In its original form, I was somehow confused about the cliché " Knee-High to a grasshopper " that I'd partially incorporated into the lyrics ; my thinking was backwards because the original lines were : " When I was justa knee-high to an a-hole..."
I recorded the second, duplicate vocal part without listening to the first ( during recording ) so that the end result would be sloppy - seemed appropriate for the theme of the song and adds more of a " live " type of vibe to it.
% The tapping ( percussions ) in the background is an actual wooden washboard %
Lyrics
When I was just head high to an asshole
I used to catch everybody's shit
Well, now I'm an arm's length to an asshole
and I just can't seem to get ride of it
Yeah, when I was just head high to an asshole
I learned awful fast how to keep my mouth shut
Oh, when I was justa head high to an asshole
I tried to keep myself out of that rut
Chorus :
And when everyone was passin' the news
Lordy knows that this old boy had the butt of the blues
You kinda grow up thinkin' just like a fool
Learnin' all your life from a brown eye's view
Oh, when I was just head high to an asshole
I used to hate to stand in line
Oh, yes, when I was a head high to an asshole
I'd always be that brown-nosed kid behind
But then one fine day while waitin' for a movie downtown
It was such a fine feelin' as I had never found
Yeah, I use to be a head high to an asshole
till some pretty little lady accidentally turned around
Well, now I'm just an asshole
And my woman keeps tellin' me, " Come on back to bed "
Yeah, some folks still call me a flush-lovin' asshole
'cause I just can't seem to stay
I just can't keep away
I just can't seem to stay
out o' the head
Chorus
